Case Study: Corporate Portraiture

Corporate Portraiture with dpix Creative Photography

Every Corporate Shoot is Different

The brief for a corporate photo shoot can vary tremendously.

There are many reasons for this: location constraints (such as cramped spaces), limited time with subjects, and the final intended use of the images—whether for a website, social media, PR, or other marketing materials.

Understanding the Client’s Needs

For this particular shoot, our client had originally asked us to take portraits three years earlier (you can see those images alongside). Since then, the brief had evolved—new staff had joined, corporate branding had been updated, and the organisation wanted to refresh its image.

The client’s aim was clear: they wanted to present themselves as the professional, highly respected organisation they are, while also showing that they have personality and individuality within their team.

A Fresh Approach to Corporate Portraits

When the client shared their initial ideas with us, we were pleasantly surprised. They requested not only traditional, formal corporate headshots but also a series of more relaxed images that would bring out the personalities of individual team members.

These images would serve a dual purpose:

  • Staff members could use the relaxed portraits for their personal social media profiles.

  • With each individual’s consent, the company could also use these images for corporate materials and communications.

Putting Subjects at Ease

When taking any form of portrait, once all the technical details are taken care of, the real skill lies in introducing the subject to the scene.
This can be quite daunting for them, especially in a professional setting.

Our priority is to get people relaxed and comfortable. Often, we gently guide them into poses that might not feel natural to them—but which look fantastic from the camera’s perspective.

From Conventional to Creative

We began by ensuring we captured the more conventional, professional headshots first.
Then it was time for the “fun” shots. Luckily for us, one of the first team members we photographed was really up for pushing the boundaries a little with their poses.

The results were brilliant. Even better, because this person was a well-respected member of the team, we could show their shots to the next subjects, which helped everyone buy into the creative side of the session more easily.

A Fantastic Result

Both our client and the team were delighted with the results—and so were we!
It was fantastic to create portraits that captured both professionalism and personality, and we look forward to working with them again in the future.
