How to Prepare Your School for a Prospectus Photography Shoot

Preparing for school prospectus photography

A school prospectus shoot goes better when the school is prepared. That might sound obvious, but in practice there’s a lot that can be planned in advance that makes a real difference to the quality of the images — and to how smoothly the day runs. Here’s what we’d recommend thinking about before we arrive.

Plan activities, not poses

The best prospectus images come from students genuinely doing something — a science experiment, a group discussion, a PE session, an art project. When students are absorbed in an activity, they forget the camera is there, and the images look natural and engaging rather than staged.

Think ahead about which lessons or activities will be happening on the shoot day, and try to schedule things that are visually interesting and active. A class watching a PowerPoint presentation is harder to photograph than a practical lesson.

Plan a representative mix of students

Your prospectus images need to reflect the full diversity of your school. Make sure the students in front of the camera on shoot day represent a genuine cross-section — different year groups, subjects, and backgrounds. Think also about which staff members should appear; teachers interacting naturally with students are valuable, but it’s worth identifying willing participants in advance rather than asking on the day.

Think about uniform and appearance

It’s worth reminding students about uniform standards in advance, without making it feel like a formal occasion — the goal is for everyone to look like themselves, just at their best. If your school has a smart dress policy, a quiet reminder the day before goes a long way.

Consider the spaces you want to feature

If there are specific areas of the school you want to showcase — a new building, a recently refurbished library, a specialist facility — let us know in advance. Some spaces benefit from a quick tidy before shooting; others need to be booked or scheduled around other activity. The more we know going in, the more efficiently the day runs.

Share what makes your school distinctive

Every school has something it’s particularly proud of — an exceptional music programme, strong community links, outstanding sports achievement, a specific pastoral approach. These are the things we want to capture, and we can only do that if we know about them. Before the shoot, take a few minutes to share what you’d most like the images to communicate. It genuinely shapes how we approach the day.
