Case Study: Camembert Cheese Campaign
The Brief
A client asked us to take some pretty food photos for a new marketing campaign all about cheese. The main star of the shoot was a whole Camembert cheese. The goal was to create a set of nice, bright photos that the client could use to show off the cheese and make it look tasty to customers.
We needed to make the pictures look bright and fresh, showing off the details of the cheese and the food placed around it.
The Creative Process: Darren & Julie in Action
Good food photos need the right setup and careful styling. The photography was done by Darren Shipman, who has over 30 years of experience taking food photos. He used his studio lights to make sure the cheese, nuts, and herbs looked crisp and clear. You can explore more examples of our commercial work on the dpix food photography portfolio.
Julie King did all the styling for the shoot. She is great at arranging food so that everything in the picture looks neat, tidy, and works well together. To give our clients total peace of mind, our team is friendly, professional, and fully experienced in food photography.
Preparation
We did the shoot at our commercial photography studio. You can find us in Bromsgrove, specifically Stoke Prior, which is very easy to get to as we are just two miles off Junction 5 of the M5.
To get ready for the day, we chose a soft pink background to give the photos a pretty look. For the extra details, we went out into the garden here at dpix and picked fresh pink flowers and green herbs to use in the scene. We set everything up perfectly before the cheese was brought out, which kept the fresh plants from wilting under the lights.
Execution
We set up the studio lights to look like a bright, sunny day with clean shadows. The pink background gave the whole cheese campaign a fresh, modern feel. As you can see in the first image, we arranged all the items flat on the surface and took the photo from directly above.
The wheel of Camembert cheese went right in the middle. We then neatly placed walnuts, pecans, bread slices, a small bowl of chutney, and the fresh rosemary, thyme, and pink flowers from our garden all around it. We made sure the whole shot was in sharp focus so every ingredient looked great without taking attention away from the cheese.
The Result
The client got a brilliant set of high quality images that were exactly what they wanted for their cheese campaign. The pink background and the fresh garden flowers and herbs created a pretty look that will help their products stand out on websites and social media.
The final photos provide the client with a clean, professional set of images ready for for their marketing.
